The Goddard School® of Alexandria – Old Town is seeking an experienced Education Manager (Early Childhood) to join our administrative leadership team. This role provides school-wide instructional leadership, teacher accountability, and curriculum excellence, ensuring every classroom delivers a high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning experience.
This is a leadership and management role, not a classroom teaching position. The Education Manager is responsible for implementing Goddard’s proprietary Wonder of Learning® curriculum, managing and coaching teachers, ensuring full compliance with licensing and accreditation standards, and driving consistent educational outcomes across all classrooms.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instructional Leadership
- Lead and oversee implementation of Goddard’s Wonder of Learning® curriculum across all age groups
- Ensure lesson plans are age-appropriate, engaging, and implemented with fidelity in every classroom
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide clear, actionable instructional feedback
- Oversee student assessments, developmental milestones, and educational documentation
Staff Management, Coaching & Accountability
- Coach, mentor, evaluate, and manage teaching staff performance
- Establish clear expectations and hold educators accountable for instructional quality and professionalism
- Lead ongoing professional development, in-service training, and curriculum workshops
- Partner with the leadership team on hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and corrective action
Compliance, Quality & Accreditation
- Ensure 100% compliance with Virginia Licensing regulations, health and safety requirements, and Goddard Systems QA standards
- Support accreditation and quality initiatives (NAEYC, Cognia, Virginia Quality, etc.)
- Monitor classroom schedules, ratios, documentation, and safety procedures
Program Excellence & Family Engagement
- Support high-quality teacher–parent communication regarding learning and child development
- Assist with academic-year programming, summer camp curriculum, and educational field trips
- Collaborate with the administrative team on continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (required)
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in an early childhood setting
- Prior experience in curriculum leadership, instructional coaching, or education management preferred
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development, lesson planning, and teacher coaching
- Proven ability to manage adults, drive accountability, and maintain compliance in a licensed childcare environment
