Position Title: Toddler Teacher
Reports To: Director/Assistant Director
Employment Type: Full-Time 

Position Summary
The Toddler Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children ages 12–36 months. The teacher will support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through developmentally appropriate activities, positive guidance, and meaningful interactions. The Toddler Teacher will work closely with families and fellow staff members to provide high-quality care and education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Child Care and Supervision
  • Provide constant supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all children. 
  • Maintain active engagement with children throughout the day. 
  • Follow all state licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and center policies. 
  • Assist with diapering, potty training, handwashing, and other personal care routines. 
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to children's needs. 
Curriculum and Classroom Management
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote learning through play. 
  • Foster language development through conversations, songs, stories, and daily interactions. 
  • Encourage social-emotional growth by teaching sharing, cooperation, and self-help skills. 
  • Create a positive classroom environment that supports exploration and independence. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom. 
Communication
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers. 
  • Communicate daily with parents regarding their child's activities, development, and well-being. 
  • Participate in parent conferences and center events as needed. 
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff. 
Health and Safety
  • Conduct daily health checks and monitor children for signs of illness. 
  • Follow proper sanitation and cleaning procedures. 
  • Ensure classroom materials and equipment are safe and in good condition. 
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and daily classroom documentation. 
Teamwork and Professionalism
  • Collaborate with teaching team members to ensure smooth classroom operations. 
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude. 
  • Assist in other classrooms or center activities as needed. 
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required. 
  • CDA, Associate's Degree, or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred. 
  • Previous experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare setting preferred. 
  • Ability to meet all state licensing requirements, including background checks and required training. 
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. 
  • Ability to remain patient, calm, and positive in a busy classroom environment. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 
  • Bend, kneel, sit on the floor, and actively participate in children's activities. 
  • Ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. 
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day.

A successful Toddler Teacher:
  • Creates a warm, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment. 
  • Maintains compliance with all licensing and center requirements. 
  • Builds strong relationships with children and families. 
  • Promotes children's growth and development through positive interactions and intentional teaching. 
  • Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence in early childhood education.
